Three of us tried out Black Friday, a stock market game by Friedemann Friese. The mechanics are pretty clever and worked pretty well last time I played (2 player). However, the market adjustment is subject to the randomness of how cubes are drawn from a bag and we managed to avoid drawing black cubes in virtually every round until the very end. Hence, prices became very expensive very quickly and this made the game take longer than it should as the silver price only crawled up slowly. I wasn't helped by the fact that I virtually cashed out on silver anticipating stock prices must fall and silver price must rise. When neither happened for the next few rounds, I had no cash or shares and was reduced to passing every time. Mark W played the market the best and won the game pretty easily. Hopefully, next time we play, the game won't be quite as skewed as it was this time. |
