Our second game of the evening was also the second Corne van Moorsel game to try. This one was completely different, however, being an auction game about managing a basketball team. This one played a lot better than it sounded and we all really enjoyed it, with the result being extremely close - even Mark K ended up close to winning. This had not seemed possible after four seasons without a single trophy - most teams would have got rid of the manager long before then on the grounds of incompetence. That said, the fourth season had looked pretty promising until his star player got injured and had to sit out the entire year. Steve had the reverse experience with a fantastic first couple of seasons and then tried to rest on his laurels for the remainder of the game and it nearly worked. Even my "Arsenal strategy", of never winning but instead coming second or third nearly worked but Nige's use of the specialists (particularly the referee, whose tie breaking skill twice gave him a couple more points over me, turned out to be critical and he just sneaked the win. Good stuff.
