Five of us this week met at Mark K's house and, when I arrived, they had set up Santiago - a game we last played in 2004. We all very much enjoyed it as balancing how much to bid for plantations and what to keep back for bribes is quite tricky. Nige had to bid big in the middle of the game for a tile he really needed and this left him starved of cash, which hampered him a fair bit for the rest of the game. Mark K also bid high for a vital tile for him, only to see Mark W outbid him and be left with a much inferior plantation. I built up a very strong potato farm and, by virtue of some well judged bribes, persuaded Nige (my puppet) to keep it irrigated for me. I was well ahead going into the last round so passed to take the overseer and ensure nobody else could score big on that final round, although Guy did still have his extra water channel to play to give him some nice extra points. Good game. |
