Date: 11th December 2009
Game played: Ausgebremst ( ASS ) BGG Id: 459

We finished off this week with Ausgebremst, which is my tenth playing of the game although my last was in February 2000 (Wow!) Mark K and I were trying to work out when this was released and although I guessed at 1995, I first played in December 1994 and the actual publication date was in 1993.

Anyway the game is Ave Caesar with an element of control over the order in which you draw cards and a modular board for courses of varying difficulty. Hmmm, we played one of the easy circuits and still two people failed to finish but both of the non-finishers had not played before and perhaps didn't pay enough attention to the fact that we'd told them that, if you go wide, you've only got so many spare movement points. The pits can sometimes help but Guy worked out halfway round the second lap that, even with the extra cards a pit stop would bring, he still wasn't going to finish. Mark K and I were always going to be favourites but I made one stupid move when I had forgotten one of the pinch points (trying to force Mark wide, it has to be said) and got badly baulked. Anyway, Mark K took advantage and cruised to victory and I had to suffer being relegated to third as Steve grabbed the runner-up spot. Great game but I still like Ave just that bit better.
