We finished off with the brand new dice implementation of Ra, or Ra-htzee as some are calling it. Gone are the auctions to be replaced by rolling five dice, which are allocated to four point-scoring areas: Pharaohs, Niles, Civilisations and Monuments. There is also the Ra track, which directs when a round is over and points are scored, and after three rounds, the player with the most points wins. Conceptually, very similar to the original but mechanically very different.
I have to say it plays pretty well, although it doesn't reach "classic status" like the original but it has quite a lot in common with Roll Through The Ages, another dice game I really like. This playing took a bit longer than I would have liked but more familiarity will knock a fair bit off the game length next time around. Mark G cemented his King of Dice Games reputation by winning this at a stroll. He managed to get to the end of the Nile track before the end of the first round, which meant an easy twelve points every round. We did manage to roll a disaster in the final round to eliminate his flood but he still had time to re-flood before the game ended. If he hadn't, the scores would have been much closer. I was trying to get points from monuments and scored 35 in the final round for these but at the expense of losing points elsewhere in the other rounds. Good fun. |
