Long Shot is a really fun horse racing and betting game that will take up to eight players. The aim of the game is to make money by buying and betting on those horses that you reckon will come in the first three of a ten horse race. On a player's turn they roll two dice, one of which determines which horse moves and the other determines how far they move. Each horse's ownership card also shows between two and five of the other horses' dice numbers and, if you roll that number for a horse you own, it also moves as well as the principal horse. After the horse(s) have moved, you can then do use an action card (which basically allow further movement or gain you cash or place bets on horses) or buy a horse or bet on a horse. Once the first three cross the line, whoever has the most money wins.
Nige shot out to an early lead, buying Wonderbred early and pushing him quickly down the back straight. Then, all of a sudden, he slowed right down allowing others to catch up. Following a couple of hefty bets I made through card play and good die rolling by Mark G, I looked to have a good chance of raking in lots of money if my horse, Lucky Seven, managed to cross the line. However, the others were wise to this and did all they could to move me back at the expense of other horses. Nige eventually crossed the line in first and, with bets on his own horse, came out a comfortable winner. |
