It's nearly five years since we last played this and I'm glad it made a return as it's a good solid game. It took us a while to remember how powerful some of the spell cards are and some of our early auctions allowed a couple of the "gain a second jewel" spells to be grabbed cheaply. Mark G took advantage and took a healthy lead that had the rest of us worried about another runaway victory. On a couple of occasions, one of us had to "take one for the team" to stop someone claiming the final jewel and it ended up extremely close with four of us within one jewel of victory. However, Phil had accumulated a huge hand of gold cards and the wizard eventually moved into a gold region and he slapped down an unbeatable bid to claim the win.

A good game with a fair bit of tension and players involved all the time. With six players, it perhaps ran on a bit too long but, as we're regularly getting six attendees at the moment, it's unlikely to be five years until we play this again.
