I’ve never played Junta before and was a bit surprised with how much I had enjoyed the game afterwards. It is very much enhanced by getting in character and second-guessing what other players are going to do and what they might think you’re going to do.
Nige started the game as El Presidente with Phil as First Minister. What an underhand pair they turned out to be, especially Phil’s use of the hitman. I managed to squirrel away some money in the bank early on but then kept getting targeted, despite my unceasing loyalty to my leader. John wasn’t so loyal and eventually dethroned Nige for a turn or two. However, his choice of First Minister, Phil again, was such an unpopular choice with the rest of the Cabinet that John had to go. Again, my loyalty to my President was unquestioning but I wasn’t upset to see him go.
What was upsetting was seeing Nige back as President but the game was nearing a close and Mark K and Nige both successfully assassinated one another, while I managed to get to the bank with a pretty nice stash and surprised everyone with my overall winning haul. See loyalty does pay off, sometimes.
