My table tried Castles of Burgundy: The Card Game for our second game and it was very good. All of us bar Andrew had played the boardgame version and the card game immediately feels familiar, while doing away with the spatial reasoning aspect of the map. Here you are trying to build triples (three cards) in the different card types and these triples generate points. One or two of a card type in your estate yields nothing. You also score for shipping goods and collecting different animals and after five rounds, whoever has got the most points wins. In our game, there was a distinct lack of cloisters appearing in the market and, as these are worth six points for a set, a couple of us ended up with wasted single cloisters. Guy did manage to get a triple cloister and scored consistently well in all areas to take the win by four points from me. Having played it and really enjoyed it, Andrew is keen to try the boardgame.
