After Castles of Burgundy, our table had half an hour left so I introduced the other three to the lovely Machi Koro. This is a great engine building game where good dice rolls appear to be the determining factor in who wins but I don't think that's the case as getting a spread of buildings to mitigate the dice rolls is critical as well as good judgement in when to start investing in the higher numbers and choosing to roll two dice rather than one. Having played a few times previously, I used my knowledge of the game to very good effect and merged with a fairly comfortable win. That said, the game was too much fun for Nige resulting in a '4' rating - probably something I could have predicted beforehand - but Beth and John both seemed to enjoy it. |
