It is a few years since I last played Shark. It is a nice abstract business game, similar in feel to Acquire, that plays very quickly but presents lots of decisions and uncertainties. Timing is everything and selling your carefully acquired holding in a company just before its share price plummets is key. There is a nice element of helping others while helping yourself and sometimes the toughest decisions involve deciding whether or not to make your best play when it helps someone else more than it helps you.
Our game ended with one of the shares reaching a price of 15, which Mark K seemed to think didn’t happen very often. I’m not so sure because I have certainly been in other games that have ended like this. However, it ended up being my call whether or not to end the game and I was uncertain whether the extra $15 would push me into the lead or not. However, I didn’t like to pass up on the opportunity, but discovered Mark K had just pipped me by a few dollars.
