Over on our table, I taught Nige, Mark G and Mark W the game of Jerusalem, designed by Michele Mura. This was a nice worker placement area control game although some of us did take a while to think through what we were going to do on our turns. To be fair, Nige did tend to have twice as many cubes to place than the rest of us and he definitely needed to make them count to fend off my challenge. Annoyingly for him, I just was keeping my nose ahead and, between the three of us, his opponents were making sure he didn't completely over-run the board. The key play turned out to be my auctioning off the weakest player character in the final round and taking it for myself. This enabled me to play last and react to what everyone else had done before me. I managed to judge things just right - well, actually I didn't having miscounted the cubes in one region where I would have easily taken control (costing me a prestige point and two soldiers) - but I still was able to tie with Nige for the highest tower and broke the tie with highest remaining prestige (me 7, Nige 1). A bit long but some nice ideas, an enjoyable game all round. |
