Olympus is a new release from the designers of Kingsburg so I was looking forward to seeing how it played. There were four of us and we managed to finish in just over 2 hours, which wasn't too bad. The meat of the game revolves around placing your workers to gain the favour of one of the Greek gods. However, if you choose a particular god, others can also follow you and gain the same favour , albeit a slightly less powerful version. We all thought the game worked pretty well but there were a couple of issues. Firstly, the plague action seemed too negative to the gameplay. Once someone had chosen it, everyone else needed to "waste" a worker to protect themselves, as the consequences of being hit were too severe. Secondly, the Temple of Athena's power was just too powerful in comparison with the other temples: Improving your own status as well as hitting every other player's status seemed too big an advantage and Guy spotted it straight away and bought it as soon as he could (for a very cheap price relative to other buildings). No one was surprised when he was able to secure an easy win by the end. Those two drawbacks aside, I thought the game played really nicely and I look forward to playing again.
