This week, there were just four of us so it gave me the chance to break out Dungeon Lords, the new game by Vlaada Chvatil published by Czech Games Edition. The game is about building up your dungeon, setting traps and recruiting monsters and ghosts before the adventurers arrive at the end of the round to try and tear everything down. In this way, it is reminiscent of Galaxy Trucker in that you're building something up only to watch your hard work get destroyed. The game only plays over two rounds after which prizes are given out to the best Dungeon Lord in various categories and points are given for what you've managed to accomplish by the game end.

There are lots of moving parts to this game, lots to weigh up and a sense that you are struggling simply to stand still. At least, that's what some of us were doing. Nige just kept his dungeon compact and hired strong enough monsters to make sure the adventurers couldn't cause any damage. His success in achieving this meant he was embarrassingly far ahead of the rest of us when the scores were recorded. The game took a long while to complete and this trimmed my rating down just a touch. If we could get it finished in two hours, that would be ideal as the game has lots of good ideas in it and a number of strategies (one of which for Mark and me would be to make sure we pay our taxes!).
