This week there were six of us so we decided to pull out Antike for another outing. I thought we'd played it more recently but the last play of this was in April 2008. As usual, people were praying not to get a starting position next to Mark G, warlord extraordinary. Sure enough, first chance he got, he was stocking up on iron and building legions. This game, however, I found I went down the military route as Nige foolishly expanded into "my" region of the board. This forced him down building temples and improving his defence know-how both levels on the same turn. I eventually built up enough forces to destroy his temple and expand to ten cities but I knew I was never going to be in the running. Tom and Mark G had a bit of a skirmish in Spain and Portugal - well, Tom moved in and Mark G knocked him down. Temples seemed very popular with Tom,Mark K and Nige all gaining the Ancient Personality for 3 temples. However, Guy was the only one to concentrate heavily on gold and know-how and somehow managed to avoid Mark G's military for most of the game. This proved to be the winning strategy and when he grabbed his fifth know-how personality, it was all over. Plenty of 'monkey' comments during and after the game (mostly directed at me after my reaction to last week's session) - this was another fun session of Antike.
