It is a long time since I last played Princes of Florence and I thought it was long overdue for a return to the gaming table. I’ve never played at the Shrewsbury Boardgames Club but Nige has played a fair few times and likes it a lot. Mark G and Steve had never played before.

Only two turns in and I knew I was completely stuffed for the rest of the game. Starting that second turn , I had neglected to obtain either personality or enticement card. Nige then started a stampede to get these, leaving me with the knowledge that I was going to be very short of artisans wanting to display. I ended up only being able to display four times whereas Nige had enough cards to display every turn. He had not counted on Mark K though, who played a very nice last couple of turns, including putting on a 29 point work on the last turn to ease himself easily beyond Nige’s score.

Princes of Florence is a very clever and enjoyable game. It is pretty deep with lots of paths to scoring points. Everyone rated it highly and it needs to come out a bit more often so we don’t forget which strategies work and which don’t.
