Next on the list was this recent dice-rolling gambling game, which is played on a board resembling a roulette wheel, with spaces valued between 1 and 24. The idea is to roll the dice and try to land on a high number. If you are not satisfied with the number you land on, you can re-roll but you may have to pay the owner of that space (another player or the bank) cash equal to the value of the space. If you land on a space where someone else has decided to stop you can dislodge them so that they have to continue rolling. Once everyone has stopped, the player on the highest numbered space receives cash from the others equal to the difference between that number and the number the other player landed on. He also is allowed to buy one of the remainig spaces in the hope of receiving income from people re-rolling. The game ends when someone has managed to buy a fifth space on the board or, more likely, someone goes bankrupt, in which case whoever has the most cash wins.

I have played this a few times before and really enjoyed it. Everybody else was new to the game and it took a while for people to realise that although you try to preserve your cash and this can be done by being conservative and accepting small losses, it is much more fun to lose a packet by continuing to roll in the hope that you might land on the top space. Once the penny dropped, Ben and Nige were having a wonderful battle, both being determined to knock the other off the space they wanted to claim. On one round, each must have been dislodged three times by their determined opponent. While all this dice -rolling was going on, I was benefiting greatly from them landing on spaces I owned. So, when eventually Mark G went one roll too many and ended up bankrupt, my coffers were the fullest.
