We then launched into this clever card placement game based around the World Cup. I've not played this for a while but have fond memories of it. Basically, each player is secretly given a number of teams that they try to guide, through the placement of cards, towards the cup final and football glory. The idea is to put good cards on your own teams and bad cards on teams they will face during the tournament, while trying to work out the route that they will follow to the Final. However, you need to try and avoid people working out which teams you are supporting otherwise you tend to find a host of bad cards being played on them.
Now it is unusual for someone not to be able to get at least one of their teams through to the second round of the game. However, I managed it in this game. I was very unlucky (even though I do say so myself) only to have one card the whole game with more than one goal on it, and that was only a two goal card - no Hat Tricks for me, whereas Nige managed to pick up a fistful. Even with this advantage, however, he didn't manage to win as Mark K recorded the perfect result guiding both of his teams to the Final.
