John needed to disappear shortly after Das Amulett finished, so he was happy for us to try the other Moon/Weissblum game I’d brought with me: Capitol. Unfortunately it only takes 4 players, so John watched while the rest of us played.

This is a great game and is probably my favourite of the 3 Moon games this year. It is very simple to explain but some of the decisions are agonising. When to drop out of the Construction Phase can be critical and there is an element of staying in just in case you get stitched up. However, the Development Phase is also quite lucrative, and I used my purchase of Fountains to good effect to close off a highish scoring area and then made sure I won the first Temple.

Unfortunately, it is possible to get left with an unplayable building and Nige had a very impressive 4 storey building that he just couldn’t get onto the board. Consequently, he was not really in the running, which may have dampened his enjoyment of the second half of the game. He did, however, manage to win the final Temple and place it on the one space that robbed me of the win and handed it to Mark. It was the logical place for him to put it as it helped him most, but I still felt robbed.

Again everyone enjoyed the game and most preferred it to Das Amulett. This will get many more plays I’m sure.
