This week, there were just five of us and, as Mark K wasn't with us, I thought it was a good chance to try Dark Moon. This is very much Battlestar Galactica in feel but without the thematic backstory. It still evokes the tension of the hidden traitor but doesn't feature the well known characters that people tend to role play in the BSG game. We played with a slight variant where it was uncertain whether one or two players were infected and I think this works well because, even if you think you know who one infected person is, you're not sure if there might be another. The team started off pretty well and no-one was terribly suspicious although Nige did and Rose did seem to complain about their dice rolls a little too strongly. However, the events started to be overcome and then Nige revealed himself to be a cylon (sorry, infected). This allowed him to immediately cause some damage but it turned out not to be too bad. We got onto the final mission but Steve and Mark G were low on dice when it came to my turn. It seemed rather nasty of me to get us to face a task that could potentially lose the uninfected the game and to add insult to injury, I played dice that took the goal further out of reach. Nige smiled at me as the realisation dawned on everyone that there were two infected players and they didn't have the dice to rescue the position. Really enjoyable game and playable in about a third the time of BSG so it got a big thumbs up from me.
