With eight of us this week, we initially split into groups of five and three. Five of us tried Beowulf - The Legend, as Guy had said he'd like to get it to the table again. Amazingly, I haven't played this since 2006 but the game was new to Felix, Nicky and Andrew. This is a great game following the adventures of Beowulf's life, where the players are trying to gain the most fame to take over from the hero following his death at the end of the game. The fun bit is the taking of risks when resolving the major episodes. Well, fun unless you're Andrew as he didn't seem to be able to pass a risk test to save his life. I accumulated two wounds quite quickly so was on a bit of a knife edge for the rest of the game(a third wound would have lost me 15 points). The battle with the dragon was an epic duel between Guy and me with neither of us wanting to yield as there were an extra three points up for grabs. However, Guy's risk-taking eventually added a double fist that I couldn't match and he took the seven fame point token. Nevertheless, I had the best gold hoard and some valuable alliance tokens so was able to squeeze out the win by three points. Good fun.
