Game played: Caverna: The Cave Farmers ( Lookout Games ) BGG Id: 102794

This week, there were just five of us so we broke out Mark K's new copy of Caverna: The Cave Farmers. Mark K had played earlier in the week and claimed he had been beaten badly but the rest of us made him a firm favourite. Caverna is Agricola without the huge myriad of cards and it plays very smoothly. However, there are still so many options on what you can do that turns can take a while for new players and we realised we were unlikely to finish the full twelve rounds. Nige was first to grow his family and was very lucky that no harvests appeared for a while; otherwise, he would have been taking loads of begging chips. We ended the game after nine rounds with Mark K having a sizeable lead. He had developed his fields and pastures well and looked well set up for the final rounds so we all agreed to give him the win (although Nige could only do it through gritted teeth). We all enjoyed it with the others giving it high ratings while mine was knocked down a notch as it runs just over my complexity threshold for full enjoyment. However, a very solid game that I think the others would like to try again next week.
