This week, there were seven of us and Nige had brought his new copy of Madeira to play. Four of them sat down to try it but it became obvious that, although the game played very well, they were not going to finish it in a reasonable time so they called time early.

Meanwhile, I taught Andrew and Nicky Euphoria, which is a worker placement game set in a dystopian world where you want to keep your workers happy and dumb. Unlike most worker-placement games where lots of workers is advantageous, having more in this game makes them more aware of their plight and so you can easily lose workers who gain too much knowledge. This world is split into four factions and you send your workers off to the various factions do stuff, some of which can gain you victory points. You will have more interest in improving certain factions over others and the game is a race to be the first to gain 10 victory points. There's a lot going on in the game and yet it plays very smoothly and doesn't take too long to complete. I'm keen to try it with four. Andrew made very good use of the Icarite faction and emerged a fairly comfortable winner, whereas I was well out of contention. Oh, and the ability to roll and make use of doubles on your dice is a big help - the contrary adding to my woe.
