Final session of the year and five eager gamers gathered at my house. I’d set up Shadow Hunters (expecting there to be eight of us) and we went through the rules and characters carefully as Julia had not played before. I reminded everyone that Daniel won if he was the first to die and we proceeded to dish out the characters randomly. Now Guy and Steve were keen to ensure I lost (in the slim hope that the Hall of Fame victory might come their way) and Nige is always up for bashing the host so I wasn’t surprised to suffer a fair bit of damage early on. However, it was still early on when, convinced I couldn’t be Daniel, they continued to pick on me so I suffered a very early death with the prospect of watching from the sidelines for another half hour – but of course I was Daniel, the groans from the others failing to mask the embarrassment they must have felt by handing victory to me.
